As a wellness counselor, I specialize in helping people listen to and care for their bodies with gentleness and understanding so they can form more meaningful connections with themselves and others. All that our body does is in the aid of survival, and the patterns and behaviors that our body adopts to keep us safe work really well, until they don't. The ways we find ourselves stuck, often started as our body trying to help us get through something that was overwhelming and/or felt unsurvivable. That is why there is never any room for shame in something our body does to try to help us make it through difficult things - although sometimes the impact of the those things causes disconnect in our relationships.
The primary emphasis of my work is how our nervous system influences our sense of safety and thereby our ability to connect with ourselves and others. I use the research of interoception, interpersonal neurobiology, attachment, somatic integration, and polyvagal theory to help you understand how to befriend your body as your most loyal ally in healing. In addition to being a Wellness Counselor, I have certifications and training in somatic regulation, applied positive psychology, grief and anxiety, adolescence, parent-teen relationships, recovery from disordered eating, self-compassion, mindfulness, new parenthood, and other major life transitions. I work with all ages. I am trauma-informed and client-directed. I work from a strengths-based, positive psychology paradigm - meaning I look for the beauty and strengths in who you are, and help you build on that foundation.
